TYPES OF ENERGY AUDITS

  • Walk-through or clipboard audit: This is a basic audit without the use of diagnostic equipment.  This type is mainly for a homeowner or small business owner who may want to do some of the improvement work themselves and outsource the big projects.  A clip board audit is about educating the client and auditor usually request that the owner be on site at the time of the audit.
  • Comprehensive Audit:  This is a quantitative audit that involves using diagnostic equipment that measures the performance of various aspects of your home.  The tools used may be a blower door, duct blaster, infra red camera, combustion analysis, ect.  Computer modeling and energy bill analysis are used to measure and predict home performance.  This type of audit is usually required by a second party dealing with regulated programs.  The cost of these audits increase with the required diagnostic measures.

Healthy Home (Office) Audit

Each person has unique needs and concerns when considering environmental issues.  For some energy savings is the most pressing issues.  For others implementing green products and strategies for living sustainable are the primary issues.   Today one of the biggest concerns for many people is a healthy indoor living environment.

In the last several years, a growing body of scientific evidence has indicated that the air within homes and other buildings can be more seriously polluted than the outdoor air in even the largest and most industrialized cities. Other research indicates that people spend approximately 90 percent of their time indoors. Thus, for many people, the risks to health may be greater due to exposure to air pollution indoors than outdoors. http://www.epa.gov/iaq/homes/index.html

Indoor pollution sources that release gases or particles into the air are the primary cause of indoor air quality problems in homes. Inadequate ventilation can increase indoor pollutant levels.  High temperature and humidity levels can also increase concentrations of some pollutants.  There are also other factors that involve the way a person lives and works in their home or office.

Green Audit

Green audits involve more than simple Energy Audits. They may or may not include a Healthy Home Audit.  A Green Audit also identifies opportunities to improve waste reduction, recycle, and reuse and rethink the use of items in your home or office. A Green Audit will start with an energy and waste reduction evaluation and then become more detailed based on the clients needs.  Depending on the needs of the client a Green Audit can include the evaluation of furnishing, interior and exterior products and education the client as to a “green” product that fits their needs.

Love the Green offers individualized consultation services and can help you with small projects, large remodel jobs and the building of the new home.
